My Role
Design Lead — Product Oversight, UX/UI Direction & Interaction Design
I partnered with another Lead Product Designer who led the day-to-day execution. I provided design direction and critique, helped shape the overall experience, and contributed key interaction patterns—including the expandable drawer and custom numeric keypad, adapted from concepts I had previously developed for Paycheck Optimizer.
The Challenge
First Republic clients often needed to transfer significantly larger amounts of money, quickly, but third-party services such as Zelle imposed daily transfer limits that didn’t meet their needs.
The challenge was to provide a direct, high-value transfer experience inside First Republic’s mobile banking app while maintaining the security, clarity, and confidence expected from private banking.
The Solution
We created an integrated Client-to-Client transfer experience that allowed clients to send and request high-value payments directly within the First Republic ecosystem.
The experience brought recipient selection, account balances, amount entry, scheduling, review, confirmations, and transaction history into one cohesive flow—making large transfers feel fast, clear, and trustworthy.

The end-to-end transfer journey
A sequential flow that keeps clients oriented at every step of the payment process.

Structuring core experiences
The critical interaction patterns that simplify everyday banking tasks into clear, low-friction experiences.
Send & Request Hub
Clear entry points for the two primary actions. Clients choose between sending money or requesting a payment, with a unified hub that surfaces scheduled and historical transfers.
Fast Amount Entry
Large amount input with real-time account balance visibility, optional memo note, date selection, and a clear review CTA. Designed for confidence when moving large sums.
Scheduling & Unified History
Clients can view upcoming scheduled transfers, completed payments, and received transfers in a unified activity view with clear date grouping and status indicators.
Product Evolution
From P2P to C2C
The feature was initially explored as P2P payments. As the product became more closely integrated with First Republic’s client ecosystem, the experience evolved into Client-to-Client Transfers (C2C), a name and framework that better reflected the bank’s relationship-driven model.
This shift shaped every design decision — from naming conventions and navigation labels to how recipients were surfaced and how transfers were categorized in activity history.
Core Values
The foundational design principles
Clarity over complexity
Every screen answers one question. No unnecessary steps, no ambiguous states.
Trust at every step
Confirmations, clear amounts, and account details reinforce confidence in every transfer.
Ecosystem consistency
The C2C experience inherits the visual language and interaction patterns of First Republic’s mobile banking ecosystem.
Outcome
The final experience created a cohesive money-transfer flow that felt native to First Republic’s mobile banking ecosystem while simplifying a complex financial task into a clear, trustworthy experience.
